Hi, 1st post here - today I've studied quite a few articles on the main site to understand how to setup my Home network in the way I want, but am still not clear on my main idea which seems like it would be such a common practice that articles would have been written to clearly explain it -
kindly point me to any such and I will be very grateful.
I also spent quite some time searching before posting, but not finding.
Specs : T1 + broadband cable connection & Motorola Surfboard modem --->
into Apple Airport Super Wireless Router ---> into 8 port TrendNet gigabit ethernet switch --->
wired Cat5 into each machine but occasionally roam wireless with a laptop.
OSs - currently XPsp3 Pro & SnowLeopard, moving to Win.7 on several rigs in another week or so.
Basic question restated - how to allow workgroup LAN but restrict/block individual internet access ?
Simply -
* want a Windows Workgroup of 2 - 6 or so pcs + 2 iMacs,
* want it based on TCP-IP, not NetBEUI to simplify adding Windows 7 machines
* want to assign static IP addresses, PLUS the ability to restrict internet access at will -
I'd like to find or learn to write a simple, one-click script/batch file
to enable/disable internet access per machine when needed -
currently only really use 2 machines to access Internet.
I'm the only person on all the machines, which I use for different duties -
therefore I basically want to grant each machine total access to each other machine.
I have solid Drive Snapshot imaging in place, use Avast on-demand, Sandboxie my browsers, & use a Live CD for banking.
No viruses or trojans for years, no browser scripted infections for 2+ years since employing a Sandboxie strategy - and I do occasionally visit the dark side of the tracks "for testing/educational purposes".
Thanks very much for your assistance, and any referred posts/articles/tuts that apply.
